Alex has 32 years of experience at NOAA National Weather Service at 6 locations providing interpretive decision support services and warnings for agency partners and the public. In 2020, he was the American Red Cross Hero Award recipient. Uniquely, he held both positions as a Science and Operations Officer and a Warning Coordination Meteorologist. An accomplished public speaker he has presented nearly 1000 times to a wide range of audiences including scientific peer experts, panels, emergency managers, schools, fire agencies and the general public. His strength in science has resulted in numerous publications. Alex is Incident Command certified and has deployed to EOC and Command Posts. He has conducted hundreds of radio and TV interviews and developed a large following from published YouTube videos. His expertise extends into the development of several hundred case studies, peer reviewed articles and the use of social media to extend weather and climate education and outreach. Alex's passion and expertise of weather and climate allows him to take complex science processes and simplify for the general audience consumption and risk decision making.
